What’s battery life like? With the backlight on, full power
Color is super nice, but for an ereader, unless you read a lot of color comics etc, 1000% go with black and white for now. The color filter adds a bit of fuzziness and makes everything darker, which makes it harder to use without the light. And if you do read a lot of Comics, you're probably better off with a tablet or a larger color ereader. With 7" you will often have text that is tiny I imagine. I tried reading Berserk on my first gen Libre. And a lot of the images and texts was too small, having to zoom in which is kinda clunky, then move around is super annoying. You're better off getting something larger. 7" is fantastic for reading. I do wish there was a libre that was 8" .. I really enjoy the design etc. I just kinda want it to be the size of a larger hardcover book
Oh I can read fanfiction on it directly too!
Slow down and enunciate. I can't understand you.
Do you _have& to use kids mode on the kids kindle? (Or if you click out of it on kids kindle at any time ads appear?)
I love that if supported veve app
Thank you for comparing the Libra Color to an older Sony. That helps me personally, as I _was_ considering upgrading from a Sony PRS-T1. Hopefully Kobo will release a new Libra BW, as I like that form factor. (btw, you might want to disable auto white balance in future videos)
Why the screen goes black and white? is this normal? Thank you
Colour e-ink baffles me - why pay so much more for lower quality pictures with lower quality colour than a tablet? You arent watching videos or playing games. If you're an adult, you probably aren't reading illustrated novellas. If its just for coloured covera, you're a sucker.
Wait until apps don't support Android 12 anymore 🤣. Boox don't ever upgrade the OS to new version.
Libra Color has unven cold lighting
Shinzou wo sasageyo.
Good review. I am waiting for the white model to be released.
Love the text to voice, but can you connect Bluetooth headphones? Also, with the physical buttons, can you disable the touch screen like you can on the Kindle Oasis?
Yeah, you can connect Bluetooth headphones and speakers. Kindles are the only ones I've come across with the option to disable the touchscreen.
Can the Store shortcut on the homepage be remapped?
Not that I know of. The store can be disabled but the icon still appears there.
8:31 latency seems OK, it is not as responsive as Apple Pencil 2, no ? Does anyone know ? Thanks.
How do you lock the screen preventing accidental page jump?
The Paperwhite has a setting to disable the touchscreen for everything but page swipes. The Kobo has an indented screen so it's easier to avoid accidentally touching the screen.
I got the Kobo 2 weeks back, while its a pretty neat device especially on the reading segment, the lacks of flexibility just kinda annoying (I have 2 boox devices, so...). Gonna grab this Color 7 and see how much it lacking vs Kobo in the reading segment. If not overly huge, I might keep the Boox and sell the Kobo
Nice device, but I think that the contrast has margin of improvement yet. I can wait for a couple of generations more to buy it. And also, I hope the price will drop with time too.
Comrade, 250 dollars for 8 core cpu + 4 go of ram and colorful e-ink is , from my perspective, the best offer among other ebooks
The one you linked to cost £880 ! You are joking obviously, I can buy a good used Car for that kind of money......crazy.
It sells for $249.
@@TheeBookReader the link in the description goes to a different tablet that costs 900 pounds
Can you connect to the Kindle / amazon account to purchase books?
No, Kobos don't support Kindle books. Check my Boox Go Color 7 review. It can install the Kindle app since it runs Android.
Honestly, I don't like the colour model. Screen is too dark for me. Gives the appearance it's covered in soot or something.
You actually can put library books on the kids kindle. It’s just a really weird process to find them.
Do you have to do the process every time? Or once you do it you have a easier time getting to them?
I got this ereader and love it. Compared it with my b&w Libra and the text was less contrasty. Which I find a good thing. Nice and soft. Reading much more since I have this Libra Colour.
Can I read on web browser smoothly?
Still, no send via email sideloading feature...
The best comparison end of story. Newer reviews go into stuff that isn’t as useful such as screen size etc
Configuration not customization. Customization involves coding. Configuration involves using existing functionality to tailor the experience.
Boox is the same as all other software and hardware made in China: bloated and clumsy.
The big one is Libby on kobo in Canada.
wow that Hollow Places book cover looks nothing like the blue colored one the Boox shows you. It's like a TV showroom turning on motion smoothing and vivid color to sell you a TV. I know you can turn those options off but it's disappointing they're all enabled by default, especially if it affects text rendering too.
It seems like using Calibre and the native reading program is better than using the Kindle app. I am waiting for the white model to be released.
I have both the Boox Tab Mini C and the new Boox Go Color 7. My Tab Mini C is amazing, the font in its Kindle app is easily read and nice dark letters. But I decided to get the Boox Go 7 because it was lighter to hold and had the page turn buttons. I immediately saw the Go's font in Kindle was so washed out even though the font in books offered by Boox was fine. Not really understanding that. I finally turned the color and brightness setting to max for Kindle and for some reason it did make the Kindle font slightly more readable but book cover images then are horrible so it's a sacrifice.. overall I have to admit I've been very disappointed in the Boox Go 7 compared to my Boox Tab Mini C (which I really love). So I'll just accept my Tab Mini C being heavier since it looks amazing on web pages for reading and images plus the Kindle font is way better. You're the only one I've seen address the Kindle font issues. So thank you, I thought I got a bad one for awhile.
Apparently Boox has not done a good job with their standard settings on the Go. Deep Guide (I don’t want to offend the creator) found it out in his first look.
@@EJAcademy Yes, I feel like if I hadn't gotten the Tab Mini C first I might not have had this level of disappointment. But the Boox Tab Mini C actually made me give up my Kindle Paperwhite, that's how amazing it looks. And I get it, the Go is way less expensive than the Boox Tab but it should look a little better than it does.
@@Sybilla9 yes, but Deep Guide was able to DRASTICALLY improve the fonts on the Go by changing the default settings. Watch his video to see how he did it. And he’s going to tinker more with his full review of the Go. He was very unhappy with the fuzziness of the fonts at first, but was pretty happy by the end of the first look video. It’s a software rather than a hardware issue. Now, the question of why Boox has such bad defaults is concerning.
@@EJAcademy Thanks I'll definitely have a look. I tweaked about every setting I found and I was used to doing that with my Boox Tab Mini C somewhat, although it needed almost no tweaking at all compared to the Go. But I'll look at his video and see if something I missed. Thank you! :)
@@EJAcademy Well I messed around with settings. But discovered something weird. I can't find the settings Deep Guide shows no matter what I click on. Those setting images look nothing like mine. I also have a loose device casing (the back plastic popped outwards when I took the clear case off I bought), and it had a dead pixel from when I got it from Amazon. But good news with all that is I have it pretty close to the images on my Tab Mini C. I appreciate the help.
What is the battery life? Does the boox also need the backlight on because of it also having the Kaleido screens?
Bottom line is the kobo is a dedicated ereader and the boox is a tablet and as a tablet is a step down from the iPad or any other legit tablet. I don’t want a tablet for an ereader. The whole point of an ereader is distraction free reading. If you want color and apps use a freaking iPad. If you want an ereader for reading the kobo is wonderful for annotating, note taking on your books, etc.
The app part is nice to have for reading comics/manga and others within an android reading app. I dont think anyone would install a non reading app on it, it runs videos like trash, no idea if anyone gonna run social media on it but who cares, i think the purpose of the e-reader being android is so people can use any app to read on it, not to use it to distract themselves or play games. Not like its capable to run them properly anyway.
Im a comic book and magazine reader so having an open source such as android is a huge welcome. Sometimes i read free on website. I tried kobo beta website browser and i find it abysmal. Also, reading on my ipad made my eyes worse.
My thoughts exactly. I do read colour comic books and graphic novels but I read them on my iPad. I prefer to read them on an 11" screen over a 7" screen anyway.
@@AndyFraserA i can never, my eyes hurt when i read from my ipad xD
Completely disregarding the Android OS that offers more ebook capabilities. What an idiotic comparison.
Colour screens are already darker than the BW screen. And the Boox C extra layer on top only makes it worse. I prefer the Kobo Libra Colour.
Boox company is violator of GPL license, they were so on top of their head they don't address this anymore. What a unethical piece of shite is and some are promoting the same
Thanks, I was waiting for this comparative
I love my libra color!!
This Boox definitely >>>>>>>>>> Kobo Libra Colour
Amazing video! Thank you so much for making it!
I heard the white/gray version of the Go Color 7 is a sunken screen. It would have been the better comparison
Yeah, well the white version isn't available yet.
@@TheeBookReader ❤️
Can you force greyscale mode on the kobo in the dev options?
The page turn buttons not working on the Kindle app is a deal breaker.
Actually, it works, as long as you set the volume button to turn page in the Kindle app.
Yeah, it works now. You also have to set it to use volume buttons with Boox's optimize settings, not page turns, which is counterintuitive.
I'd love to a comparison between Go 7 and Tab Mini C.
Tab Mini C has 7.8" screen and have no SD card slot... But both are same Kaleido 3, I guess no difference...
The Tab Mini C has the boox super refresh technology so it's going to be much smoother and with less ghosting, but that probably means less battery life.
@@carloareaser Mini C has faster the refresh, so yes when you use it as a Tablet - more smoother. But if you just read books - no difference. As for me eInk it is not about the scrolling, video watching etc. etc.
@@carloareaser battery life is a secondary concern for me. I did see a video where someone did a battery life comparison and if you're reading books only it was approximately 56 hours. If you were doing something that needed full refresh and HD mode it was only 6 hours. I'm retired and so I don't really need to worry about having to charge it up because I can plug it up anytime. I'm more concerned with smooth operation and ghosting artifacts.
@@anatolitrafimuk4987 no SD card slot is no biggie. I doubt I would ever fill up 64 Gigs of memory. Besides, you can use Dropbox or Onedrive, or other hosting services for storage anyway.
Thanks for the comparisons. How is holding in the hand? Does the roundness and curve make the Kobo more comfortable to hold, or is pretty negligible?
I have the libra color. It’s extremely comfortable to hold, even one handed
Negligible. They're both comfortable to hold.
I have a BOOX Page and a Kobo. I love both, but holding the Kobo is much more comfortable.
Hello, I would like to ask your opinion about using this device for medical ebooks with surgical pictures and similar. Would this model be a good option? Thanks
I bought it and now I am very very sorry. I hate it. Nobody mentions one important thing: every time I turn the page, the screen takes a long time (maybe thinking?), then it flashes and goes completely black, and only then does it sloooooowly show the next page. You can't look inside the book or flip through it. It's a disaster. If you're a researcher, it's no good. I had a Kobo an I liked it. Later I bought a Nova 3 , not bad. My opinion? No, do not buy a Kindle Scribe. And more: it is expensive.
kobo is much better sadly it's not available locally at my country
